Australian Transactional Analysis Association

Welcome

Welcome to the Australian Transactional Analysis Association (ATAA) website. We are in the process of making changes to our website, logo and links, in order to bring you easily accessible and comprehensive information about what ATAA has to offer.

Our purpose is to introduce, teach and create an awareness of the theory, methods and principles of Transactional Analysis. We do this by offering training, conferences, workshops, seminars, supervision and more. This website will list current and up coming events so please continue to investigate our updates.

ATAA has a membership that covers not only Australia but also New Zealand and England.
 
ATAA is also part of the greater body of Transactional Analysis in the world and as a result we have mutual recognition of our training and qualifications with the training bodies of the International Transactional Analysis Association www.itaa-net.org (ITAA) and the European Association of Transactional Analysis www.eatanews.org (EATA).
 
ATAA has Australian accreditation and nationally recognised training offering Certificate IV, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma qualifications in the field of psychotherapy and a Graduate Diploma in the four fields of psychotherapy, counselling, education and management (organisational).  

A new constitution has been voted for, which creates a Federation of Transactional Analysis in the Pacific region. This new regional body will be formed in conjunction with our neighbours in New Zealand www.nztaa.org.nz (NZTAA).

Transactional Analysis has become a well-known theory and was developed by Eric Berne MD. Over time our theory has been scrutinised, studied and researched.  It has now evolved into an even more solid and broad-based theory for practitioners, managers, teachers and others.
 
Transactional Analysis runs four streams of expertise in the areas of psychotherapy, counselling, management and education.

It is a social psychology and model for understanding human personality, relationships and communication for personal and professional growth and change. It also has a Relational and Integrative component that keeps it current with world-wide therapeutic uses.

MEET THE ATAA BOARD MEMBERS -

 

Jo Frasca - President

Jo FrascaJo is a psychotherapist in private practice in Sydney NSW. Jo’s work reflects the Relational approach, and as a result she specialises in longer term work. Jo is simultaneously respectful and fascinated by he human unconscious process and brain plasticity.  

Jo has a passion for the profession and as a result she is usually found involved at the association level.  She is currently the President of the Australian Transactional Analysis Association (ATAA).  Jo is a Past President of the Counsellors and Psychotherapist Association of NSW Inc, doing three terms.  She has also been on the PACFA Register Committee and previously on the Board of the Western Pacific Association of Transactional Analysis (now ATAA). She is also a Director of the Australian Centre for Integrative Studies.

Jo has a Bachelor of Social Science and is a Certified Transactional Analyst (Psychotherapy -  ATAA & ITAA). She is Registered Member with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) Reg. # 21303 and is a Clinical Member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association of NSW Inc (CAPA NSW) # 1444
 

Jan Grant - Treasurer

Jan GrantJAN GRANT, B. Ed (Early Childhood), M. Ed (Adult Education), Certified Transactional Analyst, (Education and Counselling), Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst, Clinical Member, CAPA (Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association), Certified Member, Imago Relationships International.

I first worked in Early Childhood Education and later, in Adult Education. I have been in private practice for nearly 30 years, seeing individuals and couples. I divide my time between my own counselling practice in Glebe and my role as Senior Educator at the Australian College of Applied Psychology, where I teach Counselling Skills, Supervision, Social, Legal and Ethical Issues, Groupwork and Family and Relationship Counselling and organise Professional Development and mentoring for other educators.

Currently I hold the position of Treasurer on the ATAA Board. Because I have gained so much, both personally and professionally from the TA community, I am very happy to give back to it.

 

 

Judy Morris – Accreditation Chair

Judy MorrisJudy offers psychotherapy and counselling to individuals, groups, couples and children in the Subiaco area. Judy also provides training and supervision in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy.

Background:
Judy was a secondary school teacher for 20 years teaching English and Personal and Vocational Education (PAVE). Through her teaching experience she found a particular interest in family dynamics and personal development which developed further through studying Transactional Analysis. Further evolution involved working with therapy and training in TA.

 

Kathy Laverty – Co Chair TSC

Kathy LavertyPsychotherapist/Counsellor

Kathy is a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) and Supervisor (PTSTA). She lives in Sydney where she works as a psychotherapist with individuals and couples.

Kathy served on board of ITAA as the Australasia Regional representative from2009-2011. She is involved in national and international training and certification for the field of psychotherapy. She is a trainer (PTSTA) at ACIS in Sydney. She represented ITAA on T&CC as a member of Training and Certification Standards .She currently is the co chair of TSC (ATAA). She is involved in examining psychotherapist both nationally and internationally.

Her focus is on the role of the unconscious and working with it collectively through Social Dreaming. She has a passion for the role that community plays in developing and holding ethical psychotherapists.

Serving on the board of ATAA allows Kathy to be part of a dynamic team of professionals at the cutting edge of psychotherapy both nationally and internationally. She is the Goulding Award Coordinator and the Co Chair of TSC.

 

Rhae Hooper - Immediate Past President

Rhae HooperL.S.D.A., C.T.A., P.T.S.T.A. (Ed)

Rhae works primarily within the corporate sector, as a coach to CEOs and in the development and facilitation of management training programmes. She is involved in work with many charity and not-for-profit groups – Social Ventures Australia, Red Kite, Starlight Australia; a mentor for the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and is on the Professional Advisory Panel for Dial-A-Mum.  Rhae was a founding member and board member of ASCANZ.  

Rhae is currently the Past President of A.T.A.A., having been the President of W.P.A.T.A. for the 7 years prior to 2011.  Rhae’s involvement as a board member has been to bring her commercial and business expertise of over 30 years to the Australiasian organization as it underwent constitutional changes while maintaining its recognition as an accredited training body within Australia.  This has also involved active collaboration with ITAA and EATA in keeping ATAA involved in world events such as the World Conferences.

Jo SchaefferQualifications: BA Grad Dip Counselling

Jo began private practice in counselling and psychotherapy in 1997. She is now based in Sydney and specialises in  psychotherapy for adults and couples.

Jo's practice is based on her training in Relational Transactional Analysis and the philosophy that health and wellbeing come from a person's sense of self. A therapeutic relationship can gradually help to restore or develop a healthy sense of self.

The role of Secretary and Trainee Representative on the Board of the Australian Transactional Analysis Association is Jo's first appointment to a Board. She is passionate about the role of psychotherapy in our community and culture and hopes that by being on the Board she can be involved with the face and the impact of Transactional Analysis and Psychotherapy as a profession.

As a Chair of the ATAA Ethics Committee I am in a position to explore ethical issues in depth and am aware that questions and dilemmas are permanently present.

I work as an Associate Director of Academic Unit at the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE and have a small private practice.

My own personal experiences have been shaped by transcending the borders. The driving  issue has been to find space for my multiple selves, being an expatriate, a foreigner, a Croat, a Kiwi, an Aussie, a woman, a professional.  A significant part of my professional expertise is psychopathology and its critical evaluation.

Elana qualified and worked as a social worker in South Africa before immigrating  to Sydney Australia where she continued her work as a social worker in the area of immigration- hence within many different cultural groups.  From 1982 –1994 she lived and worked in London, U.K where she trained as a psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor.  She was a co founder in a group psychotherapy practice in London where she worked with individuals, groups and families as well as teaching at the Metanoia institute.  In 1994 she returned to Sydney where she was the founder of the Australian Centre for integrative studies. She currently works as a psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor.  Elana has served on many national and international committees and boards in the field of psychotherapy training standards.

She currently holds the following positions:
Training Endorsement workshop coordinator – International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA)
Chair of Training standards committee, Training Coordinator and  Board Member (ATAA) and is our PACFA Council delegate
 
Her motivation and role on the ATAA board is to contribute and maintain high training standards within Transactional Analysis.
